The premier cattledog trial.

Competitors from all around the United States and Canada accompanied by their canine partners converge once a year to test their skills and vie for the title of  United States Border Collie Handler's Association (USBCHA) National Cattledog Finals Open Champion. The USBCHA has crowned a National Cattledog Finals Champion every year since 2001. This year's Cattledog Finals is returning to a field in Ringgold County, about two hours east of Omaha.  Last year 82 dogs and about 50 handlers competed against one another to crown the National Open Champion and National Nursery Champion Cattledogs.

"Handler and dog guide three 800-pound steers through a course roughly 1,000 feet long, through three simulated gates, a simulated sort pen and finally into a trailer.

The handler guides the dog with verbal or whistle commands, and the dog runs around, blocking and sometimes biting to get the beasts where they should go.

It's difficult. There are many variables a handler must contend with, including the sometimes unpredictable minds of three steer and one dog. One obstinate steer could ruin a performance."        ~Omaha World Herald, May 27th, 2011
